- A genuine passion for criminal law.
- Experience appearing as solicitor advocate in summary proceedings including pleas, defended hearings and bail applications.
- Experience instructing Counsel in complicated matters including trials and appeals.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to analyse and provide advice in respect of complicated matters.
- Willingness to mentor and assist other lawyers and staff members in the practice.
- Dedication and determination to build your own client base.

Description
As a full-time Legal Secretary, you will work closely with our lawyers to manage files, coordinate client matters, and handle day-to-day administrative tasks. Your contributions will be key in maintaining high-quality service for our clients and ensuring seamless file management processes.
Key Responsibilities
File Maintenance and Matter Management:
- Open and close files.
- Draft initial letters and cost disclosures.
- Manage data entry and updates in practice management systems (Actionstep).
- Maintain iManage files and diarise relevant dates.
- Submit online Notices of Acting and arrange AVL bookings, visits, or conferences.
- Coordinate with agents, clients, and experts for appointments.
- Assist with diary management and financial oversight for matters, including chasing retainers and processing payments.
- Submit Legal Aid claim applications, request extensions, and assist with file outcomes and invoicing.
- Upload briefs of evidence, arrange transcripts and interpreters as needed.
- Handle general file maintenance, including scanning, reporting emails, and preparing final letters and invoices.
- Monitor diaries to ensure retainers are in place and direct file closures for archiving.
Client Liaison:
- Handle new client calls and enquiries.
- Send callback requests to the legal team.
- Coordinate documentation requests for potential new clients.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and providing essential support to a collaborative legal team.

Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a legal secretary or administrative/secretarial role (legal experience preferred but not essential).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.
- A proactive work ethic and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a busy team environment.
- A dedication to providing high-level support to lawyers and clients.
