About this centre

The Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) is a maximum-security facility for male offenders and is one of three centres on the Silverwater Correctional Complex, alongside Silverwater Women’s and Dawn de Loas. Most people arrive directly from court on remand, or are held while attending court in the Sydney metropolitan area or awaiting transfer to a centre matching their classification.

What this centre is used for

The MRRC is the main metropolitan reception and remand centre for men. Most inmates leave within a few months, either on bail and release or by transfer to another centre.

Visits and contact

Families, friends and community members can arrange video appointments or in-person visits. A Visitor Identification Number (VIN) is required. The closest bus stop is on Holker Street near Avenue of Africa; visitor parking is very limited. Before travelling, call to confirm the visit and visiting time.
